Yiannis Empeoglou

Bio

Yiannis is an M&A Consultant/Intermediary with a unique experience in the Financial Services spanning more than 25 years and covering both the world of large, listed corporations as well as the world of privately held SMEs.

In 2012 he published his first book “How much is a business worth” that was translated to English in 2015. Yiannis firmly believes that valuation is first and foremost an exercise in common sense and complex mathematics a distant second and his book is absolutely true to his philosophy.

For the last 10 years Yiannis is exclusively focused on small and medium businesses. He is an IBBA (www.ibba.org) member since 2005, and a Certified Business Intermediary (CBI®) since 2007, one of only approximately 400 professionals around the world who currently hold the CBI® designation, and the only one in Greece. His firm, Synapsis, is the go-to firm for small business sales and lower mid-market M&A in Greece. Synapsis has handled projects as diverse as selling a bowling store chain and negotiating a merger of two insurance brokerage houses.

At the height of his corporate career Yiannis reached the position of Deputy General Manager of EFG Mutual Fund Management Company, at the time the biggest mutual fund management company in Greece with assets under management of € 10 billion, managing 20 different funds and employing 40 people. Throughout his corporate career he was involved in all stages of non-listed company acquisitions on behalf of the Equity Funds he was working for, with deal sizes in the area of € 20 mil. and he has also conducted and/or reviewed numerous valuations of listed and non-listed companies.

Yiannis holds a B.A. in Economics and an M.A. in Financial and Business Economics from the University of Essex, in England. He also holds a Diploma for Graduates in Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
